Stone Countertop Price
By KrisDiana
Installing a stone countertop in your kitchen is a great way to enhance the look and functionality of your kitchen. The price of a countertop depends on several factors, so it’s difficult to give an exact price without more information about your kitchen style, size, and preferences. However, we can provide you with a general price range and help you make an informed decision.
The price of a stone countertop depends on several factors, including:
- Stone type:
- Granite: On average, the material costs €150-€370 per square meter. Granites with larger and more visually attractive patterns are more expensive. Granites with larger patterns are a work of art of nature, and each stone slab has a unique pattern. Granite is a durable and easy-to-maintain natural material.
- Marble: The average material price is €350 per square meter. In the countertop manufacturers’ selection, you can find marbles with a more affordable price range, such as Carrara marble with a grayish undertone, or green marble Verde Guatemala, as well as very exclusive and luxurious marbles on special order. It is important to remember that marble is generally soft, porous, and not scratch-resistant, and is more suitable for bathrooms or rooms where the marble surface is more of a visual element than a heavily used surface.
- Quartz: On average, €350 per square meter. Quartz is an engineered stone made from quartz sand and resin. It is durable and easy to maintain and available in a wide range of solid colors and patterns.
- Ceramic: Granimax offers high-quality Italian Laminam ceramics, with a price of €460 per square meter for 12mm material. This is the most innovative and exclusive material in the world of stone countertops, especially due to its material properties – very durable, best scratch and heat resistance. Laminam designs imitate the designs of luxurious natural stones (granite, marble).
- Countertop thickness:
- Common thicknesses are 20mm and 30mm. Ceramics are also available in 12mm and 20mm thicknesses. A thicker countertop is more expensive and more resistant to weight, such as if you want to choose a cooktop with an integrated fan or a larger, double-bowl Blanco brand silgranite sink.
- Countertop shape and size, additional details:
- An irregularly shaped or complexly cut countertop is more expensive than a simple rectangular countertop. In today’s kitchens, a stone backsplash or splashback is also becoming increasingly popular, helping to keep the back wall cleaner. This increases the cost but also has great practical value. Stone-topped kitchen islands, on the other hand, are visually luxurious and often the most important part of the kitchen. If your budget allows, such a kitchen island is definitely worth the investment.
- Edge processing:
- A beveled front edge is cheaper than more complex edge treatments, including countertops with a raised front edge (also known as a glued front edge), which are made either by hand, taking longer, or using more complex equipment.
- Openings and cutouts:
- Sink, hob, faucet, and plug-in holes add to the cost. Some openings are definitely necessary at the beginning, but we also recommend planning the locations of integrated plugs and openings in the countertop right away, as later drilling holes in a finished kitchen will create a lot of stone dust and sometimes it is no longer possible to add openings.
- Measurement and installation service:
- The cost of a professional measurement and installation service depends on the size of the countertop (m2) and is approximately 10%-20% of the countertop price.
Additional tips:
- Before making a purchase, research different materials and their properties.
- Consider your kitchen design and choose a material that suits your style.
- Compare offers from several manufacturers.
- Ask about warranty conditions for both the product and installation.
- Investing in a stone countertop is likely one of the most rewarding investments in your existing or new home.
